Your photographs, artwork, logos, crests and photos you supply to us for your design are best provided as digital files in JPG or PNG format. We will discuss this with you after your initial enquiry/order has been received, or you may email us to set this up.

Alternatively, post your photograph or a printed graphic image. They will be returned to you with your delivery. Photos need to be sharp and well balanced, without strong light / dark contrasts. The better the quality, the better the reproduction. We will do all we can to ensure the safety of your material, but cannot be liable for any damage from circumstances outside our control.

Please take care when relaying text information to be featured on the candles. For orders with printed text you receive a design proof so you can visualise the design and proofread all text. Candles by Design cannot accept responsibility for incorrect spelling of names, dates or other text. If you are adding a verse, poem or dedication, consider which words you wish to feature in capitals.

You must have permission to use any personal or copyrighted images, logos and crests, and text you send to us.

Colour and appearance

While every effort is made to ensure that the photographs shown on this website and/or transmitted to our customers are as true to colour as possible, variations due to lighting during photography, as well as screen and printer colour settings, may change the appearance from the actual object. Likewise, as all candles are decorated by hand, slight variations in terms of layout, spacing and colouring may occur, and by placing your order, you agree to accept any such differences.

Production time

As a guide, allow one week for your order to be completed after the design has been finalised. However, please do not hesitate to contact us for a more urgent request!

Delivery

We use Aramex Couriers (formerly Fastway) throughout New Zealand. Since March '20 deliveries to residential addresses have been contactless, which means that your parcel will be placed in the letterbox or by the front door. Let us know any instructions for the courier, so we can add a note on the parcel.

Your tracking number will be sent when your parcel has been dispatched.

Delivery within Auckland and the North Island is currently a 1 to 2 day service. For deliveries to the South Island allow two to three days and for all rural delivery 1 to 2 days extra. It is important that you advise us if your address is RD to avoid a delay, mishandling or return of the parcel. The definition of RD is determined by Aramex Courier's own map guidelines. Feel free to advise an alternative 'town' address.

Courier delivery within the Auckland region is currently $10, a small parcel up to 2kg within New Zealand $15. Rural areas attract a $9.10 surcharge. Charges for larger parcels depend on weight and parcel dimensions.

If convenient, you are welcome to arrange a time to collect your candle contactless from the studio in Glendowie/Auckland.

Prices

Prices are quoted in New Zealand dollars and include 15% GST. All prices are subject to change without prior notice.

Payment - NZ and international

With your final order confirmation you will receive your invoice which lists bank details. Our preferred method of payment is by direct bank transfer (or over the counter, if you can find one, at an ASB branch).

For INTERNATIONAL payments, we recommend www.wise.com for a reliable, fast and competitive online transaction. Let us know, and we will send you an introductory link so your first payment is free of charge.

Alternatively, payment via paypal is welcome, a transaction charge of approx 6% on the total amount applies to cover their fees. Or use bank transfer, though you need to accept charges in the sending and receiving countries.

If your order is sent overseas by Candles by Design, the NZ Goods & Services Tax of 15% will be deducted from prices shown online, or quoted nett of GST.

International orders and travel with candles

Clients living overseas are welcome to place orders for delivery within New Zealand, and although we don't claim to be 'exporters', we have successfully sent many orders to overseas destinations via the postal courier system. For payment - see above.

If sent as a gift, feel free to email a note which we print out for you on elegant paper and enclose with your parcel.

Many of our candles have travelled overseas, safely stored in the hand luggage. There is no problem with customs when taking decorated candles overseas or re-entering NZ with them (after an overseas wedding for example). When travelling with beeswax candles - primarily used for Easter Candles - check with the relevant customs authority.
