Overseas orders and travel with candles
Clients living
overseas are welcome to place orders for delivery within New Zealand,
and although we don't claim to be 'exporters', we have successfully
sent many orders to overseas destinations via the postal courier system. Payment
for these transactions must be made in NZ$ either through a New Zealand
bank account or through paypal (a secure system via your email). No GST is payable.Many of our candles have travelled overseas, safely stored in the hand luggage. There is no problem with customs when taking decorated candles overseas or re-entering NZ with them (after an overseas wedding for example). When travelling with beeswax candles - primarily used for Easter Candles - check with the relevant customs authority.
Your photographs, artwork, and text
Logos, crests and photos you supply us for your design are best provided as digital files in JPG format. We will discuss this with you after your initial enquiry/order has been received, or you may email us to set this up.Alternatively, please post your photograph or a printed graphic image to: Candles by Design, 21 Roxy Terrace, Glendowie, Auckland 1071. They will be returned to you with your delivery. The photos need to be sharp and well balanced, without strong light / dark contrasts. The better the quality, the better the reproduction. We will do all we can to ensure the safety of your material, but cannot be liable for any damage from circumstances outside our control.
Please take care when relaying text information to be featured on the candles. Candles by Design cannot accept responsibility for incorrect spelling of names, dates or other text. If you are adding a verse, poem or dedication, consider which words you wish to feature in capitals. You will receive a proof of typeset text in your chosen font.
You must have permission to use any personal or copyrighted images or text you send to us.
Colour and appearance
While every effort is made to ensure that the photographs shown on this website and/or transmitted to our customers are as true to colour as possible, variations due to varying lighting during photography, as well as screen and printer colour settings, may change the appearance from the actual object. Likewise, as all candles are decorated by hand, slight variations in terms of layout, spacing and colouring may occur, and by placing your order, you agree to accept any such differences.
Production time
As a guide, allow approximately two weeks for your order to be completed after the design has been finalised. However, please do not hesitate to contact us for a more urgent request.Delivery
Delivery within the North Island is an overnight service. For deliveries to the South Island allow two to three days and for rural delivery 2-4 days. It is important that you advise us if your address is an RD as otherwise we may experience a delay, mishandling or return of the parcel.Courier delivery within the Auckland region is currently $7.50, and a small parcel $9.50 for the rest of New Zealand (except extra large sizes and rural areas). Charges for larger parcels depend on weight and parcel dimensions.
Under the ‘Carriage of Goods Act’ it is your right to inspect a parcel for any damage when it is delivered and before the parcel is signed for, and the driver is obliged to wait until you are satisfied that no damage has occurred during transport. It is our experience that, once you have signed, courier companies do not accept a claim, even if the damage is obvious and has happened during transport.
If convenient, you are welcome to arrange a time to collect your candle from the studio in Glendowie.

Prices are quoted in New Zealand dollars and include 15% GST. All prices are subject to change without prior notice.Payment
With your final order confirmation you will receive an invoice with payment options.
- Our preferred method of payment is by direct bank transfer or over the counter at an ASB branch into our account.
- You may send us a cheque, which requires clearance prior to dispatch of your order.
- If none of these options are suitable, internet payment via paypal is possible.
